Vastu for Modern Homes: A Practical Guide

How to follow Vastu principles without giving up light, space or a modern look.

Vastu and modern design are not opposites. Most Vastu rules are about light, air and sensible zoning — the same things good architects care about.

Key placements

  • Main entrance in the north, east or north-east
  • Kitchen in the south-east corner
  • Master bedroom in the south-west
  • Puja room in the north-east
  • Staircase in the south or west

When the plot does not cooperate

West- and south-facing plots can still follow Vastu with the right internal planning. A good designer adjusts room placement rather than forcing the entrance.

Keep it modern

Large windows, open kitchens and double-height spaces can all sit inside a Vastu-compliant plan. Ask for the zoning diagram along with your floor plan.
